Driving is very often the best way to move around in this neighbourhood. It is very convenient to park, and the majority of real estate listings are a short car ride from the nearest highway, such as I2:12:31 Highway. It is sometimes challenging to commute by bicycle in this part of the city as there are a fair number of hills, and the bicycling network is rather poor. Many of the houses for sale in this part of St. John's are located in areas that are also not very conducive to pedestrians as very few common errands can be run without the use of a vehicle.

There are no high schools and no primary schools in Southlands. In addition, parents and their children may find it very difficult to get to daycares without a car.
